Find Your Confetti Style
Wedding confetti is said to represent the hope that a new couple will have a fertile marriage. It is available in all shapes and sizes making the choice of confetti as individual as the couple themselves.
Traditional
Confetti is the Italian name for sweets which are thrown in the country over the couple as they emerge from the church.
Before the use of modern confetti in the UK the married couple were showered with flowers, petals, rice or grains to bestow prosperity upon them.
Modern
Ian Woodroof, from Confetti Magic, who supply confetti for major corporate and sporting events, says the wedding industry has benefited from a drive for new effects and technology as every bride and groom want to make their day memorable.
Earlier this year the company organised the special FXs for a wedding in an iconic North London venue: "At Alexandra Palace we produced a show where the arrival of the bride and groom into the hall was accompanied by an explosion of pyrotechnics either side of the entrance.
"As they walked to the stage along a red carpet, pyrotechnic silver fountains erupted behind them in stages along the route, finishing with a shot of glitter confetti and streamers from the stage as they turned to their guests."
Slow fall confetti matching your colour schemes is a growing trend for weddings: "This hangs in the air giving everyone the best chance of catching the moment on film," says Ian.
Alternative
Some couples choose to forego confetti altogether. You can mark the celebration by releasing balloons, Chinese lanterns or even blow bubbles.
