The 24 year-old struck up a romance with the star back in 2017, just days after he split from his wife Alex Hollywood.
The pair spent almost a year together before splitting up in August 2018 amid reports the former barmaid had failed to sign a non-disclosure agreement about their love.
Now, Summer has spoken to The Sun alongside her mum Sabina.
"The age gap for me wasn't a problem," she told the publication. "I didn't really care about it because if you love someone, then age is nothing but a number."
Her mum, however, was wary from the beginning. She admitted: "You've got a beautiful young redhead with an older man . . . the age gap. It was all there. I always knew it would explode.
"I knew the age difference would be a typical stereotype narrative that people would pick up on."
Despite her reservations, Sabina was sure to support her daughter's decision to date the star. She recalled: "I said to Summer, 'Are you serious?' and she said yes, so I said, 'Well, if you do love each other, then we'll support you 100 per cent. We're always there for them whatever they need."
Discussing the intense media attention around the relationship and their subsequent break-up, Summer said she has no regrets.
"It was a sink-or-swim situation, so I chose to swim. From the bottom of my heart all the way up, I loved him."
