According to reports, John Whitbread's wedding fell through just six weeks before the date, but he and his then-fiancée had already booked a two-week trip to the Dominican Republic for their honeymoon.
Following the end of the relationship, the "dumped" 32-year-old decided to auction off his ex-partner's spot on the trip and look for a woman to join him on the holiday instead.
The winning female, whose identity has not been revealed, has since paid £8,000 to join Mr Whitbread on the trip, which begins on 16 February.
It is understood that £1,000 of the money will be used as joint spending money for the pair, £50 will be spent to change the name on travel documents, and the rest will be donated to charity.
