The couple have had an on-off-relationship since their split in 2009 after Chris assaulted the singer.
Brown has recently completed a 90-day anger management rehab stint and despite ignoring his texts at first she eventually replied to them.
An insider said: "Rihanna didn't write back right away… but later that night she started getting sentimental and texted back, 'thank you', and asked how he was. Since then, the two haven't stopped texting each other and friends are freaked out that she's going to start dating him again."
However Chris Brown is not the only man vying for the singer's love. Rihanna is believed to be in contact with Canadian rapper Drake. They have been seen in Paris this week and performed at one of Drake's shows, where she sang her hit Pour It Up and a duet on Take Care.
They previously looked flirty on stage, and were later seen partying at a nightclub.
The rapper also sent champagne and flowers to the singer on Valentine's Day.
