According to reports, the 54-year-old was informed of the news overnight and as a result, will miss some of the Britain's Got Talent auditions in London today.
While Ms Silverman, 37, was not due to give birth until 28 February, but a source close to Cowell is quoted as telling the MailOnline: "It seems baby Cowell is on the way."
Earlier this week, Cowell admitted: "I am keeping my phone on during auditions 100 per cent. If it happens I have to go and dash on a plane. I probably will be nervous when it all happens."
He also added that he is squeamish and would "like to be at the birth - but a little bit far away".
Cowell's relationship with the US socialite first emerged last July when he had been named as a co-respondent in divorce papers filed by Ms Silverman's husband, Andrew. At the time, Mr Silverman, who was also a close friend of the millionaire, is alleged to have cited adultery as the reason for divorce. The Silvermans finalised their divorce in August 2013 and have one son together.
