The singer added, however, that he has not lost hope in someday finding happiness.
Speaking on 'Piers Morgan Live', the gay singer revealed he still cared about his ex-partners but while he still had feelings for them, he had never fallen in love with anyone.
He explained: "I would say at this point, I don't think I've ever really truly been in love which is quite a shocking thing to say.
"I mean, I think over the years, I probably felt that I was kind of madly in love with quite a few people. There are a couple of ex-partners that I love now which is different, like I love them as friends.
"I kind of love them in a way that I could never love them when I was going out with them. And I actually care about what happens to them."
When asked if he hoped to still find true love, the 52-year-old replied: "I think, yeah. It would be nice.
"When you are young, you have such unrealistic expectations of other people and your idea of what love is, is kind of a little bit naïve.
"I used to think it was a big drum and I needed fireworks because I grew up with that scene. My parents were like that.
"I kind of, for years, thought of all those kind of very dramatic relationships were really the real thing. So, I'm waiting."
