According to a new study by extramarital dating website IllicitEncounters.com, 87% of people would actually ditch their partner on Valentine's Day – so they could in fact spend the day with a celebrity instead.
For some participants, it is a chance to meet their idol or to go on a date with the celebrity of their dreams; for others, however, it would be an opportunity to escape a stale relationship.
In 2010, an independent survey conducted by OnePoll and commissioned by IllicitEncounters.com, asked more than 4,000 married couples about their relationship habits. At the time, 70% of British husbands admitted they were not happy in their marriage, while one in four Londoners said they'd had at least one affair.
Now, the IllicitEncounters.com 2014 study into Valentine's Day romance revealed that 67% of couples have been left disappointed during previous Valentine's. Almost half of the website's new members (48%) even went as far as to admit they had joined the site specifically to find someone to share Valentine's day with.
76% of women thought that romance was a big deal on valentine's day compared to only 52% of men who saw romance as important.
When it comes to what famous faces people would like to date, the top five male celebrities were said to be David Beckham, Russell Brand, Spencer Matthews, Danny Dyer and Gary Barlow.
The top female celebrities members would like to spend Valentine's Day with are Kylie Minogue, Nigella Lawson, Holly Willoughby, Kelly Brook and Abbey Clancy.
Rosie Freeman-Jones, spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com, said: "Every year we see large numbers of dissatisfied married people pre-emptively signing up around February 14th looking for a new lover.
"After years of disappointment they would rather spend their time with someone who is actually looking for romance rather than just waiting to be disappointed again."
