A Third Do Not Buy Their Partner A Valentine's Gift

New research has revealed that one in three people in a relationship spend nothing on a Valentine's Day present for their other half.

The surveys, understood to be carried out by Give As You Live and Vouchercodes.co.uk, also found that a quarter of respondents spend £20 or less on a gift, while 45% of those who do buy gifts either purchase them on 13 February – or as they are on their way to see their partner on Valentine's Day.

Furthermore, some 90% of Britons think it is acceptable to use a discount voucher to pay for dinner on the eve of 14 February. In fact, new research found that 92% of couples will be enjoying a more affordable romance for 2014 as they use a discount voucher to save money on the cost of a date.

Almost a third (31%) would think nothing of their partner using a voucher on a first date, while 9% admitted they would actually find their date more attractive if they were 'money smart'. For 19% of women though, they would prefer their other half waited until the fifth date before using a voucher, while men think the fourth date is adequate.

Interestingly, 39% of those in the 18-24 age group said using a discount voucher on a first date was a definitive no.
