Peter Andre has admitted his own "clumsiness" meant his proposal to fiancée Emily MacDonagh did not go as smoothly as he had planned.
Speaking to the Sunday People, the singer-turned-television personality admitted he became nervous as he went to propose, and ended up getting down on both of his knees by mistake.
The 40-year-old proposed to MacDonagh, 23, on New Years' Eve but their engagement was only announced last week.
He said: "I rang her [MacDonagh] dad to ask for permission. It was not a big thing. You have got to know your partner. She told me not to make it predictable. I panicked and it was New Year's Eve. You have to ask the father for permission.
"I woke up New Year's Eve and thought, 'This is it'. I had the ring made months ago and I kept it in the safe and when I woke up I thought, 'I am going to do it now'.
"I asked her dad a few times for a chat or a coffee but it never happened... I think he knew what I was going to ask."
He continued: "Me and her dad are great friends. I called him at work and said, 'Please can I have your permission?' and he was like, 'Permission for what?' and I told him she was in the other room and that I had to do it now.
"He asked what I was talking about. He said, 'Of course' and he played it down and he told his wife that I was going to propose. It was perfect. I got down on one knee but I wobbled a bit. I got down on two knees. I am clumsy and I could not do it right."
Andre and MacDonagh welcomed their first child together at the beginning of January. Last week, the couple announced their engagement. They have been in a relationship since July 2010. Andre is also a father to Junior, eight, and six-year-old Princess from his previous marriage to Katie Price.
