The study, which was carried out by Universal Pictures to mark the DVD release of romantic comedy film About Time, found that 31% of respondents regretted not making the first move, while a fifth would not have consumed as much alcohol on their date. Some 16% also admitted they should have called their other half sooner after it was over. Conservation on the first date was a regret for 14% of people who wished they had not talked so long about personal issues – including their ex-partner. The same amount admitted their 'first time' with their other half was incredibly awkward, with an honest 9% going as far as to describe the experience as disastrous.
Elsewhere, for 28% of men, they wanted to go back to their first date, simply so they could make more of an effort to impress their partner. This compares to 16% of women.
41% of men revealed they would love to relive the first night with their partner to make a better impression, compared to just 31% of women.
Regionally, those in Northern Ireland are the most likely to want the chance of re-attempting the first night with their partner, with 60% wanting to give it another go. Those in London were next (40%), with the Welsh following behind at 30%.
