In her new book, Unbreakable, which is being serialised in The Sun, the X Factor judge admitted that she threatened to call time on their 32-year relationship.
She said she found text messages to drug dealers on Ozzy's phone following a tip-off from a concerned friend last July. She said she later discovered Valium, speed, sleeping pills and prescription drug Ritalin in their LA home. She spent the next few nights in a hotel before she returned to address the issue.
She wrote: "I didn't feel anger, just an overwhelming sense of weariness. Here was my husband, sixty-bloody-four and still behaving like a teenage rock star.
"Ozzy had been clean seven years, It had taken so long to get there. So much heartache and pain. The saddest thing was telling the kids [Aimee, Jack and Kelly] and our friends. But to keep it secret would have been worse."
She later explained that her husband promised to go to Alcoholics Anonymous and attend therapy, but the pair disagreed over Ozzy wanting to remain in the UK while Sharon had to return to LA for work commitments. It was then, the 60-year-old says, that her husband told her he wanted to be a single man.
As a result, the Black Sabbath rocker went on an alcohol binge leading his wife to sell his sports cars out of anger. He later sent her a text message admitting that he had been using for a year and a half and asked for help to get clean, leading to the couple reconciling.
Sharon and Ozzy married in Hawaii in July 1982. They have three children together.
