The actress, who is married to Sir Richard Branson's nephew – Ned Rocknroll – made the comment in an interview with the Daily Telegraph.
Speaking to the newspaper, the 37-year-old explained: "I was never going to change my name to Rocknroll. I've never changed my name to anything so I didn't see a reason to start now. I quite like Kate Winslet. In fact, I think it's very flashy.
"I'm proud of my name because I'm one of three girls and we have one boy in our family so essentially the only person who is going to carry the name along is my brother and he doesn't have any children at the moment."
This is Winslet's third marriage. In 1998, she married film director Jim Threapleton. They have one daughter together, Mia, who was born in 2000. A year later, the couple divorced.
Following her separation from Threapleton, Winslet began a relationship with director Sam Mendes in 2001, and the couple tied the knot in May 2003. Their son, Joe, was born in December of that year. In March 2010, Winslet and Mendes announced their separation and they later divorced.
In August 2011, during a holiday to Necker Island, the private resort island of Sir Richard Branson, Winslet met fellow guest Rocknroll. They started dating shortly afterwards and in the summer of 2012, the couple revealed their engagement. They married in a private ceremony in December 2012, and in June this year, they revealed they are expecting a baby.
The child will be the first for Rocknroll, but the third for Winslet.
Despite her previous failed relationships, the actress said she still believes in love and having a long-lasting relationship like her parents.
"Of course I still believe in love. It's up there with great food and the love for one's child. My parents have been very happily married for well over 40 years now so to have grown up with that level of togetherness in the home was definitely something that was important to me and I'm sure I still carry that," she added.
