The 73-year-old actor confirmed the news on his Twitter account.
In the message, Stewart posted a picture of himself with his 35-year-old jazz singer wife in a multi-coloured ball pool, with the caption: "Yes, married."
A spokesperson for the actor later confirmed the news to the Huffington Post that the couple married over the weekend.
The couple started dating in 2009 after meeting when Stewart was performing in 'Macbeth' in New York. In March this year, they revealed their engagement.
Shortly afterwards, Sir Ian McKellen, who is a close friend of Stewart, said he would be officiating at the wedding.
Speaking on 'The Jonathan Ross Show' earlier this year, McKellen said: "I am going to marry Patrick. Well, no, how else do you put that? I am going to officiate at his wedding."
When asked if he was legally qualified to do so, he answered: "I don't know. But in Massachusetts, or in the middle of America somewhere, you get a friend along, and I read out the words, and Sunny and Patrick will then be married."
Seemingly confirming his role over the weekend, the actor took to Facebook to share the message: "I did my part". The accompanying photograph revealed McKellan holding a Doctor of Divinity certificate while his t-shirt reads 'Minister'.
Stewart was previously married to Sheila Falconer for 24 years until 1990, and the couple have two children, Daniel and Sophia, together.
He was also married to 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' producer Wendy Neuss for three years until 2003.
