The research, which was carried out by gift website Buyagift.co.uk, also found that parents are swapping expensive holidays abroad for 'staycations' or day trips across the UK. These trips include visiting the coast, or theme parks.
Of those polled, 89% said they find the day trips less stressful than going abroad, while 53% said it was a cheaper option. A further 24% said they felt staying at home was boring.
Elsewhere, almost a quarter of parents felt that a day out for their children means they should experience a range of activities, which they can do on a day trip.
Dan Mountain, CEO of Buyagift, said: "The summer holidays are an exciting time for children, but it's no surprise that they can instill an element of dread in parents as kids demand to be kept entertained throughout the course of the six weeks.
"As well as being more cost-effective, activities and day trips provide more value and variety than the annual summer holiday and can be worked around parents' work schedules for minimal disruption."
