A total of 1,005 adults took part in the study by 60 Minutes and Vanity Fair, where it was also discovered that 62% of women said they would want to die before their husband.
The survey was part of a mortality-themed study, which also asked participants questions about death and dying.
When asked who they would give up their lives for, 55% respondents said their children, 12% said they would die for their spouse, while 10% said they would give up their lives for their parents. A further 10% said would die for their religion, while only 5% said they'd die for their country.
When it comes to funerals, 26% admitted to having fantasized about what people would say about them at the sombre event, while 40% said if they were to have a celebrity's epitaph etched on their tombstone, it would be Frank Sinatra's, "The best is yet to come."
Interestingly, the death of fictional characters also shaped part of the survey and when asked which fictional characters they wished hadn't died, 32% of women and 19% of men chose Leonardo DiCaprio's 'Jack Dawson' from Titanic.
